Broken Bits of Mirror

Broken Bits of Mirror
From time to time, I get the itch to write fiction. Most of the time I put some ointment on it, and go on about my day, but occasionally I am forced by a cruel and uncaring god to give in to the sordid business. Many times the fiction that I write is intimately bound up with the various characters of the various games that I play. Sadly, this often means that I cannot tell the story to a broader audience without telling a Michener-Sized amount of backstory. This makes me very frustrated as an author. Once, I got 35 pages into a narrative before realizing that I was writing the begining of a novel...for a total audience of four people.

However, I have seen a few pieces of my fiction take on a shape that may be able to stand by itself with a tiny bit of information to help the reader along and a willingness to answer questions from the truly puzzled.

So without further ado let me present some of the better bits. All of the following writings are copyrighted to Pete Sears and I will personally sue and then get on a plane and kick the shit out of anybody who reprints them without express permission.

Stand-alone Tales
  • Lathropsberg ( a tale of the horror of having your wishes granted... especially if you happen to be a Technocrat. Written for Mage: the Ascencion)
  • The Factory ( An Homage, (which is a french word meaning "Theft.") to Roald Dahl. Written for Mage: The Ascencion)
  • The Immune System ( A Dreamspeaker tries to set a former Progenitor straight on the fact of life. Written for Mage: The Ascencion)

Stories from Games

Two back to back stories about young Ivan Crowley one of the main characters of the Huntington Academy game.

  • A Year and a Day. (Ivan tests himself in the hottest forge he can find.)
  • Preparations (Ivan discovers treachery against his friends and makes a move or two to correct it.)
  • A Short Journey ( I scared the shit out of a number of people with this little story involving a player in the recurring Arthurian Mythos who was not as dead as everybody seemed to think he was.
  • Ronin ( a story about Kenneth Hyatt,AKA Aristotle. the perenial screw-up of the original Mage Game. An Akashic brother with heavy karmic problems and another pregnant girlfriend. This is a story of a short Hiatus he took from his life and what it taught him.
  • Lessons In Leadership ( The Tzimsce Archbishop of Manhattan makes a move or two.)
  • A Commision (Part 1) The tale of a young artist who falls in with a bad crowd. Most notably Vittorio Cerrenzi. (My Vampire: the Dark Age Character)
